I love proverbs and phrases. They help you catch the nuances of life.
One of such proverbs I have heard/read somewhere that I try to adhere to in my life. The proverb is:
“It’s very simple to be happy, but it’s very difficult to be simple”.
A simply worded phrase, but worth a million words. Simplicity brings happiness, perhaps simplicity indicates limiting ones ambitions and aspirations.
The best example from my life would be a live example when I met someone who had a dealership of Hyundai. My car, a Hyundai had completed 9+ years, and I was planning to buy a new car. Since he was a car dealer and a friend, I thought of seeking his advice on the new car I plan to buy.
“Which car should I buy”? I asked. He didn’t answer, instead asked a question (a bombshell). “Do you want a car to show off, or you want a car to drive”? I was so perplexed I smiled and walked away.
It was a question that was best suited for a self-assessment.
Why we want to impress others more than we get impressed ourselves?
“Simple living and high thinking”, is what my father used to say. I try to adhere to that simplicity, removing all the complexities of life and relationship.
